Bal is one of the industry’s most experienced investors. From building SevenCapital into one of the largest UK developers, to acquiring Cynergy – a £3.6bn loan book bank. His depth of experience in the residential, commercial and financial markets provides Cohort with the platform to assess and underwrite the most complex and demanding real estate deals.

Matt leads investment strategy, credit risk and capital partnerships, overseeing the deployment of private capital into real estate lending. He began his career at Glencore before moving into real estate debt advisory, where he structured over £1bn of senior and mezzanine facilities.

He later joined SevenCapital as Investment Director, building and leading its build-to-rent financing division. After identifying a gap in short-term lending around speed and flexibility, he co-founded Cohort Capital in 2019 alongside Bal Sohal.

Having previously held senior positions at CBRE and Barclays Plc, Robert has deployed and managed over £1bn of real estate loans and plays a vital role in ensuring borrowers get the finance they need.

Dipen Patel

Dipen Patel

Dipen has over 17 years of real estate banking, restructuring and investment experience. Dipen joined from Catalina Re, where he was Head of CRE & CML. He was responsible for the strategy’s loan origination, execution, credit analysis and management of Catalina’s real estate equity and high-yield debt portfolios.

Prior to Catalina Re, Dipen spent six years in banking and then helped Europa Capital grow its mezzanine and whole loan lending platform.

Disha brings over 10 years of comprehensive expertise in finance, accounting, and auditing across diverse industries in both India and the UK.

Armed with a master’s degree in commerce and a background in project finance, Disha plays a crucial role in analysing and tracking financial data at Cohort, contributing her skills to informed decision-making and the efficient functioning of financial processes.

Since beginning his career in real estate finance in 2015 Tim has held positions across transaction management, portfolio management and origination, previously working at Lloyds Banking Group, Bank of China and OakNorth Bank.

During this time Tim has worked on the funding of a wide range of deals encompassing commercial and residential investment and development properties, providing finance to individuals, SMEs and major international real estate companies.

With a decade of real estate finance experience and over £700m of debt transacted, Simran joined as Associate Director, where he underwrites and manages new lending transactions from credit assessment through to closing. He plays a central role in structuring facilities, collaborating with borrowers to deliver tailored financing solutions, and supports the team in origination and capital raising.

He began his career at Daiwa Capital Markets Europe and then PBB, underwriting residential bridging, development, and pan-European commercial real estate loans.

With over a decade of experience in capital raising and investor relations, Alastair has developed deep expertise across fundraising strategy, investor engagement and deal syndication, previously serving as Senior Business Development Manager at Puma Capital Group.

During this time, Alastair has secured over £300m across UK real estate and venture transactions, cultivating and managing more than 500 investor relationships spanning institutional and high-net-worth segments.

With ten years’ experience in property, including seven in property finance and alternative investments, Katrina leads the marketing function at Cohort Capital.

She drives strategy, creative and media outreach, overseeing digital marketing, PR, events and lead generation. Her background spans alternative finance, property marketing and architectural marketing communications, bringing a sharp eye for detail, compliance, storytelling and commercial impact.

Senior Analyst

Karam is Cohort Capital’s Senior Analyst, where he supports the underwriting function, analysing credit submissions and transaction structures across residential and commercial real estate loans.

Starting his career at PWC on the school leaver apprenticeship, Karam worked in the tax advisory team, advising clients on complex tax matters. At Cohort, he applies his analytical rigour to credit assessment and transaction due diligence, contributing to the efficient evaluation and structuring of lending opportunities.

Kimani is an Associate at Cohort Capital, supporting the origination and execution of lending transactions. He manages loan documentation, valuation reports, insurance due diligence and portfolio management.

Kimani began his career eight years ago with a law degree from the University of Nottingham, and has since held roles across compliance, payments and corporate banking. Before joining Cohort, he worked as a Transaction Manager in Barclays’ Commercial Real Estate team, transacting circa £1bn of secured lending across a range of asset classes.

Analyst

Jack is an Analyst in the KYC and AML functions at Cohort Capital, where he ensures compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements, conducts thorough client due diligence, monitors and supports transaction underwriting, and facilitates the efficient, timely delivery of funding.

He previously worked in KYC and on-boarding team at Octopus Real Estate and at Bank of America, specialising in onboarding financial institutions. Jack combines regulatory expertise with operational efficiency. He is fluent in French and Spanish.

Rufus is an Investor Relations Associate at Cohort Capital, assisting in fundraising and distribution of Cohort Reserve by connecting financial advisers and wealth managers with Cohort’s product suite.

Rufus has over five years in financial services. Before joining Cohort, he spent four years at Octopus Investments fundraising across infrastructure, venture capital and UK equities, bringing in over £100m of capital inflows and managing more than 300 intermediary relationships.

With over seven years’ experience in the property investment sector, Rupy joins Cohort Capital as Investor Relations Associate, managing the investment process from intent through to completion. She oversees the end-to-end investor journey, ensuring efficient execution, clear communication, and accurate management of payment schedules.

Her experience includes launching new investment products, including a bond listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange, and supporting sales and marketing teams in capital commitment and process.

Legal Banking Director

Debra is a lawyer specialising in banking and finance. She advises the board on its loan facilities with its various lenders and has transacted a large number of deals for Seven both in-house and in private practice. Debra has completed facilities in excess of £200m since joining the legal team in 2017.

Prior to joining SevenCapital, Debra worked for Gowling, Shoosmiths and Eversheds Sutherland. Whilst at previous firms, Debra acted for all the main clearing banks and several top 100 FTSE companies, large property developers and pension funds.
